About Us

Encountering a Behavioral Problem

I didn’t always want to be a trainer. In fact, I was part of the corporate world for 40 years. Then, three years ago, I encountered my first behavioral issue with my then three-year-old mastiff, Dysel.

He started resource guarding; first from his cat, and it progressed to his people. Next, he exhibited signs of fear aggression. He absolutely did not trust strangers anymore. Dysel was highly socialized as a puppy and into adulthood. We had no Idea how it happened or how to help him.

Meeting a Pet Trainer

At that point, I had my first ever contact with a dog trainer. The family did their due diligence and chose a trainer they thought could help. The trainer told them that their dog had resource guarding issues and some fear of aggression. They allowed him to train the dog and it turned out to be the worst mistake they ever made. All trainers and training are not alike. This experience took them down the rabbit hole of unregulated dog training.

Finding Effective Alternatives

It took that experience, a large vet bill, and no real recourse for me to decide that I wanted a way to make this field better. It led me to positive reinforcement dog training. Everything I read suggested that the behavior issues I had with my dog were normal and highly fixable or manageable if handled through a positive reinforcement training approach.

Discovering a Healthier Training Method

I enrolled in the Catch Canine Trainers Academy Master Class. While going through this program, I also learned first-hand how many dogs lost their homes due to her dog's very same issues. These are correctable behaviors that dogs learn through associations. By changing these negative associations through positive reinforcement, and teaching these techniques to owners, the whole learning process is fun and empowering.
